Thai Iced Tea Recipe


Thai Iced Tea is one of the best known Thai tea recipes.

It is a sweet and refreshing drink that is commonly sold in Thai restaurants both in the East and West.

Thai Tea is a black tea variety that originates from Southeast Asia and it is made from strong brewed black tea leaves. The secret to making this iced tea is in the ingredients added to it.

How to brew the perfect cup of Thai Iced Tea

There are many different ways of making this tasty beverage. Here is one to get you started.

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups of water (approx. 1.5liters)

  • 8 black tea bags

    Note: this iced tea is made traditionally with Ceylon tea, but this tea is not available you can use any other type of black tea.

  • 1 cup of evaporated milk (approx. 250ml)

    Note: you can replace this with coconut milk or whole milk.

  • 4 tbsp. of sugar

  • 4 tsp. of cinnamon

  • 4 cardamom pods, crushed

  • crushed ice

Recipe:

Now let's go through it, step by step:

  1. Let s begin by boiling the water and steeping the tea bags with cardamom for 5 minutes.

    It s the cardamom that will give your tea a vanilla spice-like flavor to your tea. This spice is truly amazing and just smelling the crushed seeds is a pleasure in itself. It is totally worth the purchase and you can always the left over pods in baking and cooking.

  2. Remove the tea bags and wait a few minutes for it to cool down.

  3. Prepare 4 tall glasses with the crushed ice and add your cooled tea, without filling the glass completely, about 3/4 of the glass should do.

    If you add the tea while it is still hot, it will melt the ice. So wait. Take the time to get your ice crusher and prepare the ice.

  4. Now, add to each glass 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/4 cup of the evaporated milk.

  5. Do not stir the mixture! Wait for it to embellish your glass and unleash its powerful aroma and flavor. Let the milk stand on top of the tea and slowly blend with the tea giving you a sweet-tasting milky orange-colored drink.

Here's a tip:

After a couple of tries you may add other ingredients. For example, other sweeteners may be added, such as condensed milk.
